It's fondue day!

Rain finally stopped here in the valley. Now, the mountains around us are snowcapped.

We decided to travel up to Grindelwald for fondue.

Grindelwald, a village in Switzerland’s Bernese Alps, is a popular gateway for the Jungfrau Region, with skiing in Winter and hiking in Summer. It's also a base for mountain-climbing ascents up the iconic north face of Eiger Mountain.

Its location at the foot of the Eiger, its proximity to the glaciers, and the varied excursions and experiences available all make Grindelwald a top travel destination.

The Eiger is a 3,967meter (13,015 ft) mountain.

While strolling through this village with its traditional wooden houses, you’ll feel the presence of the Eiger wherever you go: as many of the village’s hotels, restaurants and cafés are named after the famous mountain. This should come as no surprise, since the backdrop of the Swiss Alps really is quite spectacular here.

Grindelwald has been a Winter tourism location since 1864.

The largest difference in altitude in meters: 3,387.

There are 835 dairy cows in Grindelwald.

The Wetterhorn cable car has been in operation since 1908.

Grindelwald claims the longest toboggan run in the world at 15 kilometers.

We always get the fondue at the Eiger Restauranr, because they serve it with bread and potatoes.

I don't know who the young man with the man bun is but one of the waitresses asked for his autograph when his female companion went to the ladies room. He spoke with an Australian accent. He was very gracious signing his autograph.

Herb fondue served with potatoes and bread.

The wine comes from a winery in Spiez. The wine certainly complimented the cheese.

Hot chocolate sauce and mini hand piped meringues.

I have two favorite places to take pictures in Grindelwald. One is from under a tree by the church. Once I am back in Scottsdale, I will compare this year's snowfall on the mountain with previous years.

The other place I like is by the cemetery.

This hotel always has beautiful hanging fushias.

The flower looks like it is made of felt.

Flowers - flowers - flowers everywhere

You can never tell what you may see.

Is life like a box of chocolates?

Talented woodcarvers

I saw a marmot sitting by the railroad tracks.

What kind of birds are these and why are they flying around and around?

Grindelwald is the birthplace of mountain guiding.

"The history of mountain guides begins in Grindelwald. Nestled in the incomparable mountains of the Bernese Oberland, Grindelwald has been an El Dorado for adventurers since the end of the 18th century and has produced some of the most famous mountain guides of its time."

Why does it become partly cloudy just when we are leaving?

On the train back to Interlaken Ost.

If you want the train to stop for you, then you have to press the stop on request button for the desired destination.

"For a long time, people avoided exploring the mountains. It was known that up there it was teeming with evil spirits, giants and other terrifying mythical figures. It was only around 250 years ago that scientists first began to study the mountains and especially the world of glaciers. The initial interest in research was then joined by a thirst for adventure. Grindelwald, with its magnificent panorama and the glaciers that extend into the valley basin, attracted a colorful crowd from all over the world, and from the end of the 18th century onward, it increasingly attracted mountain-loving English people."
